Christmas Lights Clarification
CLARIFICATION ON: “Christmas Light Tradition” Article
In an on-line story published by the Shelby Star on November 9, 2023, titled, “Popular Christmas light tradition could be coming to a close”, I, as City Manager, am quoted as stating, in reference to certain electronic and support infrastructure (for the light show), that, “Also infrastructure that supported this was put into a particular building. The building owner is dissatisfied and sued the City because of the lights being there.” Please note, if the actual quote I provided to the reporter included the words, “sued the City”, that is wholly inaccurate and I sincerely apologize for it. There has been no litigation filed against the City in this matter. In fact, my intent was to indicate that the City could face litigation for its actions in earlier installations which didn’t fully safeguard the building in question and in turn led to the building owner’s dissatisfaction. Again, my sincere apologies for any misunderstanding that this particular statement may have caused.
