Planning and Zoning Board

The Planning and Zoning Board advises City Council on land use decisions. This involves rezoning cases, text amendments to the Unified Development Ordinance, and on Comprehensive Planning.

The Planning and Zoning Board has nine (9) members, six (6) of whom live with the municipal limits of Kings Mountain, two (2) members that live within the Cleveland County ETJ, and one (1) that lives within the Gaston County ETJ. Each member is appointed to a three (3) year term.

The Planning and Zoning Board meets on the first Tuesday of every month, as needed, in the City Council chamber. You can find the Planning and Zoning Board’s meeting schedule here.

  Board of Adjustment

The Board of Adjustment is a quasi-judicial board, appointed by City Council, that makes decisions on Special Use Permits, Variances, and Appeals of Administrator Decisions.  

The Board of Adjustment is made up of five (5) permanent members and two (2) alternates. Each member is appointed to a three-year term.

The Board of Adjustment meets on the last Tuesday of every month, as needed, in the City Council chamber. You can find the Board of Adjustment’s meeting schedule here.
